GOOD Banners at the Cricket

Those of you that read this blog regularly might remember that I was actually over at the cricket World Cup in the Caribbean for three weeks (a personal sacrifice I was willing to make to help out with our CWC preview blog entry). You also might have read the "Waugh Crimes" entry about the lack of imagination with fans' signs at the cricket, which have become something of an institution.

I'm happy to report though that at the 2007 World Cup there has been a distinct lift in standards, and there was one in particular at the Australia vs England game that I thought was blog-worthy.

It was a huge sign on a yellow bed sheet held up by a bunch of Aussie fans, in reference to Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff's late night antics (and the resulting fallout). The sign read:

Captain Vice Captain Pedalboat Captain Captain Morgan

If I have to explain it, it probably loses a lot of it's comedic value, but I'll include a brief explanation for those not familiar:

Captain: "Wilma" Flintoff was demoted to vice captain when Michael Vaughan returned to the side from injury and re-took the leadership.

Vice Captain: He was then stripped of the vice captaincy after a late night drunken incident during the World Cup.

Pedalboat Captain: The late night drunken incident referred to was Flintoff having to be pulled out of the sea after falling off a "pedallo" at 4am.

Captain Morgan: A popular brand of rum, drunk in earnest in the Caribbean.

Anyway, good to see the Aussies performing well, both on the field and in the stands.
